Q.  What are the minimum requirements for the R-Box software for Microsoft Windows, hardware, and internet speed?

A.  For the R-Box software, we have seen it run successfully on Windows XP using 15+ year old hardware.  It’s not ideal, but it can work, especially if the hardware is not being used for other uses simultaneously.  Ideally the system should have at least 4 GB of RAM, and enough free disk capacity to store 2000 or so MP3 files with a size varying between 3 to 5MB (hence at least 10GB to 20GB free disk space).

Regarding the required Internet speed, for streaming, the fidelity can be set to either stereo (128kbps) or mono (96kbps), so ideally the Internet speed will be at least 2 to 4 times this speed (i.e. generally 512Kbps or faster, although at a minimum 256Kbps may work).  For store-and-forward mode, the speed is less important because the music downloads first and is stored on the computer and then plays back from the local computer.  So the more important issue is to configure your Custom Schedule to download the music files at nighttime to avoid saturating the internet capacity with download traffic during the daytime.
